Terms & Conditions

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to JC’s & XLR8 driving academy. We are all DVS Approved Driving Instructor and have undergone DBS checks, medical exams and a stringent series of driving and instructional tests. Our aim at JC’s & XLR8 is to provide you with high quality driving lessons that will get you through your driving test and make you a safe driver for life.

We tailor your lessons to suit you and your way of learning using different teaching and coaching methods. To ensure that we are successful there needs to be some ground rules, so we know what to expect of each other. These are the terms and conditions of JC’s & XLR8 Driving Academy.

General conduct

As professional driving instructors, we will always behave in a polite and courteous way at all times. The vehicles will be well maintained, fitted with approved dual controls and insured for use as a teaching car.

  • As the learner driver it is your responsibility to ensure you are in a fit and proper state to
    drive.
  • You must NOT be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication at any time whilst
    driving.
  • You must also ensure you hold a current, valid driving licence which MUST be shown to your
instructor on your first lesson otherwise the lesson will not go ahead.
  • You must ensure that you can read a number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres.
  • In the interests of safety, you are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear that is
comfortable and does not restrict movement.
  • Inappropriate or violent/abusive behaviour WILL NOT be tolerated and further action against
    such behaviour may be taken.
Fees and payments

Individually booked lessons must be paid for on or before the start of the lesson. If taking individual lessons, the first lesson will be charged at double rate (£76) so you will be in credit by one lesson to cover the event of any lessons being cancelled or changed with insufficient notice. If through the course of your lessons the credit has not been needed then it will either be used for the hire of the car for your test or refunded to you should you choose to take your test in your own car.

Block booking payments must be made before the start of the first lesson. This is non-refundable but in the event you pass your driving test with JC & XLR8 Driving Academy and you have unused tuition time, a full refund of unused time will be given.

All lessons paid for upfront must be used within 3 months. Gift vouchers are valid for 6 months.

Lesson cancellation

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required if you wish to change or cancel a lesson. If insufficient notice is given you will be charged for that lesson. If the instructor feels that you are not fit to drive safely or legally for any reason, then the lesson will be stopped immediately and you will be charged. Should we need to cancel or rearrange a lesson then you WILL NOT be charged for this and the lesson will be rearranged to a mutually agreed time and date.

Punctuality

If you fail to turn up for your lesson without letting us know, your instructor will wait approximately 10 minutes. If after this time you have not made contact, the lesson will be abandoned and you will be charged for that lesson.

COVID 19

You are asked NOT to attend lessons if you have any signs of COVID-19 including:

  • A fever - feeling hot to touch on your chest or back.
  • A new persistent dry cough - or coughing a lot for more than an hour, or more coughing episodes in 24 hours or a worsening of a pre-existing cough.
  • Any other COVID-19 related symptoms such as loss of smell or taste, unusual fatigue, muscle
aches, shortness of breath, headaches or other feverish symptoms.
  • You have been told to stay home and self isolate or quarantine.
We will inform you immediately if:

Your instructor has tested tested positive with COVID 19 or is exhibiting symptoms of COVID 19.

The Driving Test

Before you can take you practical driving test, you must first have passed you theory. This can be booked online through the DVS website. If you need any help or advice with this then please speak to your instructor. Your instructor will advise you as to when you should look to book your practical driving test.

Your practical driving test needs to be booked and paid for by you at a time mutually agreed between you and your instructor. As the practical tests are normally done in the instructors’ vehicle, the booking of the practical test is usually done during a lesson so that dates and times of available tests can be checked alongside the diary in order to ensure availability of the instructor and the car.

A standard lesson rate will be charged for the use of the instructors car for a test. JC’s and XLR8 Driving Academy reserve the right to withhold the use the vehicle for a test if, in opinion of your instructor, your driving is actually or potentially dangerous or you are not of a satisfactory standard. Should you, the candidate, cause any damage to the vehicle whilst out on the driving test, you will be liable for either the total cost of repair to the vehicle or the instructors insurance excess, whichever is the least amount.

Complaints

In the event of a complaint, we will do our best to resolve the issue promptly and effectively. However, learning to drive should be an enjoyable experience, so if you do have a problem, in the first instance please speak to your instructor as soon as possible so that we can sort things out. Should they be unable to rectify any issues, please contact JC’s & XLR8 at info@jcxlr8.je or 07797911443. If you still have unresolved issues, you may contact Driver and Vehicle Standards, Jersey for further information and advice.

By booking (or continuing) the course of lessons you are agreeing to abide by these terms and conditions.
